Quick Answer

The best place to stay in Dingle is in or near the town centre, within walking distance of the harbour, the restaurants, and the famous music pubs. Dingle is small and sells out fast in summer, so book months ahead. It's the ideal base for the Slea Head Drive and the Blasket Islands.

Why Base Yourself in Dingle

Dingle is the town travellers fall hardest for. A working fishing harbour wrapped in brightly painted shopfronts, it sits at the foot of one of Ireland's most spectacular peninsulas — and it has held onto its character in a way few Irish tourist towns manage. This is a Gaeltacht area, so you'll hear Irish spoken, and the pubs run live traditional music most nights of the week.

From here, the Slea Head Drive loops past beehive huts, sea-cliff views and the beaches used in Ryan's Daughter and Star Wars; the Blasket Islands ferry runs in season; and Mount Brandon looms behind the town for walkers. The trade-off is size — there are fewer beds than Killarney, and the best ones go early. If you book ahead, Dingle is hard to beat for atmosphere.
